Chapter In A Book Called Validation

Welcome To Ken Wells Music

ABOUT ME

You’re living your best life. A fulfilling job. A family. A thriving future. And then. Cancer.

It’s like a bomb goes off in your world. What would you do? What can you do? Your life goes dark. Your emotions go dark. Mental health challenges seep in and depression takes over. Drugs and alcohol may numb the pain, but they dilute your ability to rally back. But there’s hope.

My name is Ken Wells, and I’ve been there. I’m fighting my way back from stage 4 cancer, and I want to help others do the same in their own personal battles with this devastating disease. Cancer rocked my life. But it also reshaped my perspective on living and fueled a new purpose: to help others facing a cancer diagnosis not only survive, but thrive.

But I can’t do it on my own. I need your help.

That’s why I established a fund at Collaboratory, our local community foundation. I call it the “Ken Wells The War on Cancer Fund” because, I can tell you, your body goes to war. The fund’s mission is to help others navigate their cancer journeys through financial assistance for medical treatment and mental well-being, from counseling to emotional outlets most meaningful to them.

Since my diagnosis, making music has provided a much-needed outlet. A place where I can express what I’m going through, with the hope that others will see that they are not alone with their cancer struggle. I’ve written a series of songs for music videos, each of which I think of as a chapter in a musical book. A story that represents the various stages of personal turmoil ignited by cancer amid the other emotional challenges everyday life can bring. The story ultimately celebrates hope, resilience, and determination.

Please consider a donation to the “Ken Wells The War On Cancer Fund”. Together, let’s change the lives of cancer patients and their families by providing hope and the ability to fight back. Thank you!

I hope you enjoy my music at: kenwellsthewaroncancerfund.com

Ken Wells California – Music Video

California – Music Video Ken Wells 03:29 Hello, and thank you for watching the video for “California,” the tenth song in a series I think of as musical chapters in a book. This project chronicles the emotional challenges I have faced with two important relationships since my cancer diagnosis and treatment. “California” is about my need to hit the reset button after those relationships broke apart. Their memories cling to me like a ghost, and I’m trying to break away from that haunted feeling. In the song, I head west, to the California coastline, hoping the sunshine and a fresh scene will help me leave those memories in the past. I’m looking for a chance to clear my mind and reset my heart as I move forward and leave behind the sorrow of what’s gone. Ironically, I had planned to shoot the video in Malibu and Santa Monica, but because of two hurricanes where I live along the Gulf coast of Florida, Helene and Milton, I couldn’t leave. So I ended up filming it in Florida. Even though the song is called “California,” the video had its own twist of fate, which I think kind of mirrors the unpredictability of life and love. This musical storytelling underscores the mission of “Ken Wells The War on Cancer Fund,” which is to help others navigate their personal cancer journeys through emotional support. In my case, that comes through supporting the efforts of Sam’s Fans, a nonprofit organization that provides music therapy to children and young adults hospitalized with cancer. My Heart Will Never Be The Same – Music Video

My Heart Will Never Be The Same – Music Video

My Heart Will Never Be The Same – Music Video Ken Wells 03:18 Hello, and thank you for watching the video for “My Heart Will Never Be The Same,” the ninth song in a series I think of as musical chapters in a book. This project chronicles the emotional challenges I have faced with two important relationships since my cancer diagnosis and treatment. This song is about the emotional struggle of going through treatment and the fallout of that treatment while being caught in a cycle with two relationships that keep pulling me in different directions. It feels like I’m constantly spinning, stuck on this emotional merry-go-round where things are never stable—around and around, up and down. In the song, I’ve realized that I just can’t keep doing this to myself. My heart can’t take it anymore, and I know it’ll never be the same if I don’t find a way out. I ask them to stop saying things or doing things their actions prove they obviously don’t mean, and that’s been the hardest part. It’s confusing, painful, and leaves me feeling stuck. I’m not pretending it’s easy to walk away from people you care about—there’s still a part of me that wants to hold on. But I also know that if I keep going this way, it will only bring more heartache. I Do – Music Video Ken Wells 03:50 Hello, and thank you for watching the video for “I Do,” the eighth song in a series I think of as musical chapters in a book. This project chronicles the emotional challenges I have faced with two important relationships since my cancer diagnosis and treatment. “I Do” reflects my daydream about “what might have been” if one of my relationships had reached the point where I could propose and ultimately hear the words “I do”. Realizing this is merely a melancholy muse, I remain grateful for the tough times they helped me through during and after my diagnosis. I wish them the best as they move on with their lives, and I hope the same for myself. This reflects my belief that hope is the only way forward. This musical storytelling underscores the mission of “Ken Wells The War on Cancer Fund,” which is to help others navigate their personal cancer journeys through emotional support. Unconditional Love – Music Video

Unconditional Love – Music Video

Unconditional Love – Music Video Ken Wells 03:07 Hello, and thank you for watching the video for “Unconditional Love,” the seventh song in a series I think of as musical chapters in a book. The first six songs – “Home,” “The Drugs Don’t Work,” “Standby,” “The War,” “Superman” and “No Closure” – depict the emotional challenges I have faced since my cancer diagnosis. Some have been directly related to my cancer battle. Others are closely tied to the everyday ups and downs of life, but which take on an even greater significance when intertwined with such a devastating medical diagnosis. This musical storytelling underscores the mission of “Ken Wells The War on Cancer Fund,” (kenwellsthewaroncancer.com) which is to help others navigate their personal cancer journeys through emotional support and outlets. For me, that’s music. For others, it may be something else personally meaningful to them. “Unconditional Love” picks up where “No Closure” left off. “No Closure” was about dealing with a succession of relationships that ended. The first was a loving friend that left just when I needed her most. The second was a new love interest who supported me through some of the toughest times during treatment and the physical complications it produced, but ultimately walked away due to those complications. The song reflects my difficulties coming to terms with the fact that both people I cared about seem to have had an easier time than I’ve had in moving on from our relationship. I see all their Instagram followers and the likes for their pictures pouring in, and it’s as if they have all these friends cheering them on and making it easy to turn the page in their lives, while I continue to struggle. Social media can make our lives seem perfect and effortless, but it can also amplify loneliness. Technology is supposed to connect us, but for me in this moment, it feels like it’s just highlighting how far apart we really are. The song is my way of trying to understand these feelings, even though I’m still not sure I completely do. It’s raw and honest, but I’m still figuring it out. No Closure – Music Video

No Closure – Music Video Ken Wells 02:53 Hello, and thank you for watching the video for “No Closure,” the sixth song in a series I think of as musical chapters in a book. The first five songs – “Home,” “The Drugs Don’t Work,” “Standby,” “The War” and “Superman” – depict the flow of life’s everyday emotional challenges, which can become amplified to a breaking point by a devastating medical diagnosis such as cancer and its accompanying increase in stress, uncertainty and depression. This musical storytelling accentuates the mission of “Ken Wells The War on Cancer Fund,” (kenwellsthewaroncancer.com) which is to help others navigate their personal cancer journeys through financial assistance for medical treatment and mental well-being, from counseling to emotional outlets most meaningful to them. “No Closure” picks up where the fifth song, “Superman,” ended. “Superman” served as a metaphor for feeling overwhelmed by love that is not reciprocated by the person you’re in love with – someone who has the power to both save and subdue you. The music video for “Superman” depicted Lois Lane as kryptonite, which is killing the song’s main character, and he reaches out to her for help. Paradoxically, Lois and kryptonite represent opposite sides of the same coin: the source of his strength (his feelings for her), and the source of his weakness (her disregarding those feelings). At the end of the “Superman” video, Lois has left, but the possibility of her return lingers when car lights rake the main character’s windows, and he hopes she has come back. In “No Closure” the story’s protagonist’s life is shattered when he realizes his relationship with his Lois Lane is over, and her power as his kryptonite has left him devastated. Feelings of betrayal are a powerful human force, particularly in the aftermath of a life-threatening cancer diagnosis – turbulent times that leave you at your most emotionally vulnerable. Superman is down. But is he out? Ken Wells - Superman Music Video

Superman Music Video Home Ken Wells 02:46 Hello, and thank you for watching the video for “Superman,” the fifth song in a series I think of as musical chapters in a book. The first three songs – “Home,” “The Drugs Don’t Work,” and “Standby” – depict a string of life’s everyday emotional challenges, which can become amplified to a breaking point by a devastating medical diagnosis such as cancer and its accompanying increase in stress, uncertainty and depression. The initial trio of songs led up to “The War,” a song that reflected the underlying thread that ties the storyline together by depicting how I was fighting to overcome cancer. The song’s title mirrors the very real war that goes on inside you – physically, emotionally, spiritually – and the need that cancer patients have to be on their own personal war footing to win the battle. “Superman” picks up where the third track, “Standby,” left off. It represents a person in the grips of unrequited love for another who has the power to both save and subdue him, which Rogers Media Group conceptualized for the video. Kryptonite is killing the main character, and he is calling out to Lois Lane for help. But Lois and kryptonite represent opposite sides of the same coin: the source of his strength (his feelings for her), and the source of his weakness (her disregarding those feelings). Will his Lois Lane return? The video ends with a great cliff-hanger where headlights pull up to the house, but the visitor’s identity is left unresolved.
